We moved down to Florida in 2004 after many discussions with Floridians, telling us how easy and inexpensive living in Florida would be. Shortly after arriving, we learned about the difficulties of maintaining a Saint Augustine grass lawn, the devastation that chinch bugs cause during the drought like weather conditions in the spring, the high cost of home owner insurance with such well publicized hurricane vulnerability, and the high cost of replacing the roof on your house with the new mandatory building codes designed to strengthen homes against hurricanes.
